UPSR 2016 Chinese Paper Format - What's New

I have done the UPSR 2016 analysis for BM, English, Math & Science and left the Chinese paper last because I am Chinese language challenged. My kids study in Chinese school but I am Mandarin illiterate. I know a little from the years of teaching them or helping them with homework using e-dictionaries and free apps but not enough to make a good analysis of the questions. So we'll just take a look at the format in general.

Old UPSR Chinese Paper Format - Pemahaman Paper or Paper 1 is as follows:

Time Allotted: 50 minutes
Marks = 40 marks

Q1-Q30 = Multiple Choice
Q31- Q35 = Passage followed by multiple choice questions
Q36- Q40 = Passage followed by multiple choice questions

New UPSR Chinese Paper Format (2016 onwards) Pemahaman Paper is as follows

Paper is divided into 2 parts ie Part A and Part B

Time Allotted = 1 hour 15 minutes
Marks = 50 marks

Part A (20 marks)
Q1-Q4 = Multiple Choice
Q5-Q12 = Passage followed by multiple choice questions
Q13-Q20 = Passage followed by multiple choice questions

Part B (30 marks)
Q21 (a,b,c,d) = Subjective questions
Q22-Q25 = Passage with subjective questions

What's Different About The Chinese Pemahaman Paper for UPSR 2016
  • Time increased from 50 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes
  • More subjective questions
  • 3 passages instead of 2

Old UPSR Chinese Penulisan Paper Format - Penulisan Paper or Paper 2 is as follows:

Time Allotted = 1 hour 15 minutes
Marks = 60 marks

Paper is divided into 3 parts

Part A
Fill in the blanks 5 spaces - 10 marks

Part B
Composition 80 words - 20 marks

Part C
Essay (Choose between 3) 120 words - 30 marks

New UPSR 2016 Chinese Penulisan Paper Format - From Year 2016 onwards

Time Allotted= 1 hour 15 minutes
Marks = 50 marks

Based on the sample paper, the Chinese Penulisan paper  is divided into 3 parts

Part A
Guided composition with one picture 40 words - 10 marks

Part B
Composition 80 words - 15 marks

Part C
Essay (Choose between 2) 150 word - 25 marks

What's Different About The Chinese Penulisan Paper From 2016 Onwards
  • Marks reduced from 60 marks to 50 marks
  • Part A is a guided composition now instead of fill in the blanks
  • Part B is the same, only less marks
  • Part C, less choices (from 3 to 2), more words required (from 120 to 150) and less marks (from 30-25
  • In the new format students will be required to write 3 compositions, 40 words, 80 words and 150 words in 1 hour 15 minutes
