What makes a good children's story book?

The ingredients for a good children's story book include beautiful illustration, a heart warming, feel good story and it should also have some educational value.

Pip's Peculiar Problem by Lim Lay Koon has it all. Gorgeous illustration with attention for detail. A tale of how family love helps to overcome the odds and in addition it has lots of information about animals found in a tropical jungle. Even adults can learn a thing or two from it.

Watch out for illustrations of the Malayan Sun Bear, the Rhinoceros Hornbill, The Malayan Tapir, the Sang Kancil and more as you read along. At the end of the book, you can read some facts about these animals.

Apart from the animals look out for the beautiful flora and fauna and tiny insects in the pictures. See if you can spot ladybugs, dragonflies and butterflies. You will even get to see The Rafflesia, the world's largest bloom and some pitcher plants. There are plenty of things to point out and talk about in this book.

I was so taken by the illustrations I almost forgot to review the story. The story is about Pip the Pangolin who has a very strange problem. You see, most pangolins roll themselves up in the face of danger but Pip cannot do that. His mother takes him to see Sifu Porcupine, Swami Snake and Monsieur Monkey in search for a cure. Can they help poor Pip? Can Pip overcome his problem?
